Abstract
Objective: This study aims to compare health behaviors and metabolic syndrome by household type and to investigate the influences of household type on health behavior and metabolic syndrome.

Methods: The study samples included 6,872 adults, aged between 30 and 69 from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) (2016, 2017). SPSS Statistics (Ver 23.0) program was used for statistical analysis. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed with the pooled weight under complex sampling methods.
Results: Without adjustment for sociodemographic factors, one-person households had higher risks of smoking, drinking alcohol, anxiety, and depression, skipping breakfast, insufficient food as well as hypertension, hyperglycemia, and metabolic syndrome. After adjusting sociodemographic variables, they still had higher risks of smoking, drinking alcohol, skipping breakfast, and insufficient food condition.

Conclusion: The present study showed that one-person households were more likely to poor health management compared with their counterparts. Therefore, customized health management programs for one-person households need to develop and implement.
